CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE

In 1991, Eisai entered China, and 35 years have passed since then. Yet Eisai’s connection with China runs much deeper than these three and a half decades. In 1972, before the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, Vice President Müller of Beijing Medical College (now Peking University Health Science Center) and his wife, Kyoko, visited Kawashima Industrial Park (Eisai’s Kawashima Plant). Under the Five-star Red Flag flying in the park, Hiroshi Kimura and park leaders welcomed Vice President Müller and his delegation. That was the first five-star red flag ever raised on Japanese soil, and it laid the enduring, solid foundation for Eisai’s bond with China. Over the years, Eisai China has witnessed China’s rapid economic growth and the country’s sustained peace and prosperity.

The global pharmaceutical market has entered an era of deep integration. Developed markets are maturing, with slowing growth, while emerging markets are shifting from scale expansion to quality improvement. As one of the most dynamic healthcare markets in the world, China is driven by the “Healthy China” initiative. With the continuous  improvements in medical insurance payment mechanisms, comprehensive refinement of innovative drug approval and review systems, and the implementation of full-chain policy support, China is seeing sustained growth in demand for high-quality healthcare products and services, coupled with rising purchasing power and public health awareness. Today, China’s pharmaceutical industry is transitioning from scale-driven growth to structural upgrading and high-quality development, presenting a broader and more diverse market outlook.

The rapid development of China’s pharmaceutical industry has drawn global attention. From Eisai’s global perspective, Eisai China has become a key engine and vital pillar driving Eisai’s global innovation and performance growth. In 2026, Eisai China launched its “3-Year Growth and Operating Plan.” Going forward, Eisai China will pursue a long-term strategy of “precise positioning and deep cultivation for sustained success” accelerating the launch of innovative drugs, expanding drug accessibility, and actively evolving toward the “hhceco” (hhc concept + ecosystem) model—building an integrated health ecosystem covering screening, diagnosis and treatment, insurance, rehabilitation, and more. Through not only pharmaceuticals but also non-pharmaceutical solutions, Eisai China strives to contribute to people’s well-being as a warm guardian of health.

Eisai China will continue to uphold its corporate philosophy of “hhc” (human health care), putting patients’ interests and public health first. We encourage our employees to dedicate 1% of their working time each year to hhc activities, and across China, hundreds of hhc activities are conducted annually. “hhc” is the original aspiration of every Eisai employee—stay true to why we started, and we will succeed. We hope that every Eisai colleague will always keep this original aspiration in mind, apply it to daily decisions and work challenges, and act in earnest to fulfill the mission of “human health care.” At the same time, we remain committed to “global innovation, local delivery,” closely aligning global breakthroughs with the needs of Chinese patients. For 35 years, Eisai China has been deeply rooted locally and fulfilling its social responsibilities, steadfastly standing alongside China’s healthcare journey and working together toward the “Healthy China 2030” vision.
